{Field Trip Fridays} Summer Recap

OK, I'm admitting it. I was a total slacker this week for our field trip! I do have good excuses though.

A - First day of school - which involves last minute school supply shopping - a complete nightmare!

B - My daughter's birthday - told you about this yesterday

C - Rosh Hashana - more cooking!

D - Party planning!! - my daughter's Justin Bieber / Lady Gaga themed birthday party coming up this Sunday. To say I'm stressed is putting it mildly!

Forgot to also mention my little one threw up twice. Translation - MORE LAUNDRY!!

I promise I will have a real city girl field trip for next week! Instead of just leaving you high and dry for the weekend, I thought I'd give you a brief recap of the summer. Now that it's nice and cool out (YAY!) it's hard to believe that Labor Day was just 4 short days ago.

So, here we go with 3 highlights of the summer.

1 - My older daughter was in a theater camp. I think I briefly mentioned this to you. They did a production of Beauty & The Beast. As a parent I have to say I think this was the best decision I made for her in her 7 years of existence. She absolutely LOVED it!

For me it was great also. I ended up being the unofficial photographer and took photos during all the shows along with some behind the scene shots. I printed out 8 X 10's and posted them in the lobby of the theater. I also created a disc with all the photos and sold them at the show to help raise more money for the program. It was an amazing experience!

Although the camp and the show is over, this isn't the end. She's been bitten by the bug and wants to be in more shows!

2 - A visit to Rye Playland. (Technically I think it's just called Playland)

This is a place I've gone to ever since I was a kid and now my girls love going there a well. All summer they look forward to our visit. This year there were rumors that the park would be closing. My girls are in a complete panic!

When we go, it's a whole day adventure. Fun, but definitely exhausting! This was the first time they rode a real ferris wheel. They loved it! The hubbs was too chicken to go on. To me, this was the most relaxing part of the day.

And night.

Hoping we'll be able to go back next year! Please don't close down!!

C - City Girls go Country

Sometimes it's nice to go a little north and head into the country to see some farms and greenery. Notice how I say "sometimes". I don't need this fix too often. Give me my skyscrapers and crowds and I'm one happy camper!

We decided to go to Stone Barns. They supply food for a well known restaurant called Blue Hill. I personally haven't been to the restaurant, but my friend Pam says it's her favorite. They have a location in the city and also right here at Stone Barns.

While we were there we saw greenhouses, animals and ended up on a 2 hour nature hike...accidentally. Apparently the farm is also attached to a state park and when we were walking around, we just kept on walking.

And walking.

Until we realized we weren't at the farm anymore. It should have been a clue when we stopped seeing animals.

The highlight for me was the pigs. There was only a small electric fence separating us and the pigs. I was just snapping away with my camera. I couldn't stop - until I actually had to.

My card was full. How did that happen?!?

I was amazed at how they were interacting and fighting for the mud hole! My girls had to drag me away.

My friend Pam (who happened to be my college roommate) once pointed out to me that she thought I had a fascination with pigs. I told her she was crazy. So what if I had a couple of posters on my wall. It's not like it was intentional or anything. Since then she has continued to buy me little pig items - magnets for my fridge, little souvenirs from her travels, etc.

I may just have to rethink that one.

What was your most memorable part of the summer?
